For Nonprofits

Build on what is already working. Strengthen what comes next.

Funding readiness, grant strategy, and proposal support for community-rooted organizations.

Your organization may already have strong programs, trusted relationships, and a clear understanding of the community you serve.

As organizations grow and pursue new funding opportunities, the structures behind that work often need to grow too.

I help community-rooted nonprofits understand where they are, prepare for where they want to go, and make more intentional decisions about funding along the way.

Who I Work With

Organizations rooted in the communities they serve.

I work with community-rooted nonprofits, including AANHPI, immigrant, refugee-serving, and other community-based organizations.

Some are preparing to pursue institutional funding for the first time.

Some already receive grants and want to strengthen the organization behind that funding.

Some have grown quickly and are trying to determine what needs to come next.

Others are ready to move beyond responding to individual grant opportunities and become more intentional about how they pursue funding.

You do not need to have everything figured out before we work together.

We start with where you are and where you want to go.

What Usually Brings Organizations Here

Knowing something needs to change.

Sometimes you know something needs to change, but you are not sure what the actual problem is. You may be:

Preparing for a new funding opportunity
Applying for grants without seeing the results you hoped for
Encountering requirements you have not dealt with before
Managing grants that have become more complex
Growing faster than your organizational systems
Trying to decide which opportunities are actually worth pursuing
Looking for a longer-term approach to funding

A grant application may be part of the answer.

But sometimes there is work that needs to happen before the ask.

That is why I do not begin by assuming that writing another proposal is automatically the next step.

Funding Readiness

Funding readiness is specific to where you are going.

There is no single version of a “grant-ready” organization.

What makes sense for a small community-based organization pursuing its first foundation grant may look very different from what is needed for an organization preparing for larger, more complex funding.

The goal is not to build every possible system, create every possible document, or pursue every available opportunity.

It is to understand what matters for your organization, your goals, and the funding you want to pursue.

That is the work we do together.

How I Can Help

Support scoped around your organization.

Depending on what your organization needs, an engagement may include:

Funding readiness and organizational support
Grant and funder research
Opportunity analysis
Funding strategy
Proposal development
Grant budget support
Post-award planning
Project and grant implementation support

The work is scoped around your organization rather than forcing you into a standard package.

A Better Use of Your Time

Sometimes the right answer is not another application.

Your organization’s time matters.

Every grant opportunity requires staff time, attention, and resources. Part of good funding strategy is deciding where those resources are best spent.

I will tell you when I believe an opportunity is worth pursuing.

I will also tell you when I believe your time would be better spent somewhere else.

And when something should be strengthened first, I will help you understand the next step without turning the process into a judgment about whether your organization is “good enough” for funding.

The goal is not to submit the most applications.

The goal is to make better funding decisions.

How Engagements Are Scoped

Scoped individually, not one-size-fits-all.

Every organization comes with different goals, existing resources, timelines, and levels of support needed.

Because of that, engagements are scoped individually rather than priced as one-size-fits-all packages.

Before you commit, you will know what the engagement includes and what it will cost.

And if I believe you do not need a particular service, I will tell you that too.

What You Can Expect

Clarity about what comes next.

I cannot promise that a proposal will be funded. No consultant can control a funder’s decisions.

What I can provide is thoughtful guidance, practical support, and an outside perspective as you decide what to pursue and how to prepare for it.

You should leave the process with greater clarity about what comes next, not simply another application submitted.

Before you ask, know where you stand.

Before the Ask™ is a 15-question funding readiness check designed to help community-rooted organizations begin thinking about their next stage of funding.

It takes about ten minutes and gives you a practical place to start. It is not a prediction of whether you will receive funding and it is not a judgment of whether your organization deserves funding.

It is the beginning of a better funding conversation.
